Intervention Plans for HIB Aggressors and Targets

Far too many investigations of harassment, intimidation and bullying result are not paired with documented remedial measures. Schools that fail to develop and implement best practice intervention plans for HIB aggressors and targets place themselves at an increased risk for litigation. HIB Certification for NJ for School Safety/Climate Team Members

The revised New Jersey Anti-Bullying of Bill Rights Act places a great deal of emphasis on the transition from School Safety Teams to Safety/Climate Teams. School Safety/Climate Team members are charged to establish and maintain a positive school culture and climate in accordance with best practices and in compliance with all requirements as set forth by New Jersey Anti-Bullying of Bill Rights Act.

HIB and How it Relates to Special Education, Section 504, ELL and Protected Classes

Federal and New Jersey Laws Against Discrimination overlap with the New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act. Students who belong to a protected class are at a higher risk of being the target of harassment, intimidation and bullying. As members of a protected class, acts of harassment, intimidation and bullying against these students may qualify as a violation of their civil rights, thus opening the district to potentially damaging litigation and discipline from the United States and New Jersey Departments of Education.
